The decision to adopt a child is always personal. People adopt for many different reasons. One of the realities of choosing to adopt is that it’s expensive. One way that families mitigate that cost is by choosing to adopt from foster care. As in all things in life, there are some good reasons to adopt from foster-adopt and some reasons to avoid foster-adopt. I’m sure everyone’s list would be different depending on their experience, but here’s mine.
Pros of Foster-Adopt:
- Very low cost
- The feeling of helping someone out (the baby)
Cons of Foster-Adopt:
- Almost every newborn will be drug exposed
- Toddlers have probably been abused
- Who wants a tween or teen?
I know it sounds cold, but this is the truth as I see it. There is always private adoption. Sure it costs more than four times as much as foster-adopt but ….. where’s the number to the county office? Lol
