Going to Hawai’i With Baby

Hawaii-Sea-Turtle-SwimmingThere was a fare sale that we couldn’t resist so ….  we’re taking the baby to Hawai’i.

I have never had any desire to visit Hawai’i, but now that we’re going I’m starting to get excited. Since we’re traveling with a newborn (or is it “infant” at 11 months?) I’m thinking about what things I’d like to see and so far my list includes:

African American Diversity Cultural Center Hawai’i (AADCCH)

Polynesian Cultural Center

Bishop Museum

Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay

Byodo Temple

USS Arizona

We considered getting the Go Oahu Card, but it turned out that paying for the things we wanted to see is cheaper that buying the card to get access to things that we don’t care about. Traveling with a baby is easier than I thought, but different that we traveled before we had him. When we went to Chicago this fall, I learned the hard way that cramming everything into a few days like we usually do won’t work with a baby. Babies don’t care about your schedule or how much you paid for tickets. We are still able to do things, but we try to be more mindful of how much we can accomplish in a day and what the baby might enjoy. It also helps that we babywear so we don’t have to worry about strollers and we rarely have to worry about baby napping. He can nap on our chests or our backs so once he goes to sleep we’re okay for at least another hour or two.

We don’t have everything figured out yet, but we’re excited to be planning. Have you been to Hawai’i? What things should we do? Consider? Try? Any and all information would be appreciated!  =)
