No Sew Bow Tie for Newborn

I have been wanting to see my little one in a bow tie since we got him but there were two problems:

#1 I can’t seem to find a bow tie to fit a newborn. I keep finding bow ties from 6 months to grown ups.  =(

#2 I am cheap. Even if I did find one, I bet it would be out of my acceptable price range.

So, I took to the internet to find this no sew tutorial for bow ties. I had to modify it because my little one is pretty little, but I think it came out pretty well and it only took about 10 minutes (including taking photos).

Materials:

  • Old fabric I had around the house to try it out. I used a 5in by 7 in rectangle. I cut out two pieces.
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Ruler
Cut the material for the bow. I cut a 3in by 5 in piece. Glue down ends so the finished bow will look complete (no threads hanging about).

Fold lengthwise into thirds. Glue down one third.

Glue down last third. This is what it will look like as you do the lat fold. This is the back of the bow tie.

Cut out the material for the wrap that goes in the middle of the bow tie. I did 2in by 7in which was too long. I ended up cutting off the tail end.

I folded it into thirds and glued down both sides just like the last piece. This one is thinner ... like a bolero tie! Lol

Grab the bow tie in the middle and put a large dot of glue to hold it. Wrap the thin piece around the bow tie. Glue the end of the thin piece to itself and cut off any excess. It's important NOT to glue the middle piece to the bow tie in case you'd like to had an adjustable neck piece later.

Finished product! He's so small that I'll probably just pin it on him to get a photo.

This was my first one to see if the tutorial would work. Now that I know it will, I’ll be heading down to my local fabric store to pick up a bit or two (or maybe a thrift store to buy cheap shirts to use!) to make cute new bow ties. Photos, here we come! Lol
